What Dolly Taught Me About Kindness, Creativity, and Community

Updated: Jul 15

At Helena Hills Farm, we grow a lot more than just flowers—we grow joy, community, and connection. And if there’s one person who embodies all of that (and then some), it’s Dolly Parton. We’ll be celebrating National Dolly Parton Day (August 5th) the weekend of August 1–3, with a porch full of pink, disco ball vases, music, laughter, and flowers. But before the glitter and good times, I wanted to share a little bit about why Dolly means so much to me—and to this farm.

🌄 Her Roots Ground Her Greatness

Dolly was raised in the mountains of East Tennessee, one of twelve children in a one-room cabin without electricity. She’s never been shy about where she comes from—and instead of trying to outgrow her roots, she’s spent her life watering them. That’s always stayed with me. I, too, come from a strong line of women who made the most of what they had—and poured their love into every inch of soil they touched. Dolly reminds me that humble beginnings are powerful foundations, and I carry that with me every day on the farm.

🌟 Her Talent Is Unmatched, But Her Heart Shines Even Brighter

With more than 3,000 songs, countless awards, a theme park, and an iconic catalog of unforgettable performances, Dolly is a creative powerhouse. But what sets her apart isn’t just her rhinestones—it’s her relentless kindness, generosity, and humor.

She puts people first, always. Through her Imagination Library, Dolly has gifted over 200 million books to children around the world. That’s not just charity—it’s legacy. And it’s why 10% of every Dolly Day ticket will be donated to support her mission of literacy and access for all children.

💪 A Force of Entrepreneurship, Integrity & Light

Dolly’s built an empire without ever sacrificing who she is. She's unafraid to speak up, unapologetically herself, and never backs down from doing what’s right—even when it’s hard. Whether it’s standing up for human rights, supporting youth, or funding research, she uses her platform for good, not just glam. Her ability to face adversity with humor and grace is something I try to emulate every day. Running a small farm isn’t easy—but Dolly reminds me to laugh when it rains, sparkle anyway, and always lead with love.

💕 Why We Celebrate Her on the Farm

I want this weekend to be a joyful, flower-filled tribute to the light, warmth, and power of a woman who’s always looked out for her community. I want to mirror that big heart and inspire others to do the same.

At Dolly Day, we’ll be:

✨ Designing bouquets in disco ball vases

🎶 Dancing to Dolly’s greatest hits

🧁 Enjoying treats inspired by her favorites (banana pudding, anyone?)

🌸 And contributing to a cause that reflects the values she holds dear

It’s our way of honoring a woman who reminds us to stand tall in our boots, sing our truths, and always make room for others at the table—or the porch swing.

Here’s to Dolly! To big hair, big heart, and the kind of impact that outlasts any spotlight. Join us for Dolly Day and let’s celebrate the beauty of being boldly ourselves.
